All news is good news for News Revue

You know what you’re getting with NewsRevue. Witty, acerbic sketches with some musical comedy to boot, sending up the past year’s news and current affairs, and poking fun at dimwits from both the political and celebrity spheres. This year’s show is no exception. With sketches that are, at times, rather too close to the bone for comfort, a troupe of four actors sing, dance and caricature their merry way through an hour’s worth of material.
The acting is super across the board in this year’s offering, with Mimi Edwards and Will Mulvey in particular using their beautiful voices to great effect in the musical numbers. Mulvey’s portrayal of Nick Clegg, it has to be said, in conjunction with Matt Lee-Steers David Cameron, creates fodder for many a chuckle, and Alice Marshall, a NewsRevue regular, also deserves special mention for her hilarious depiction of Andy Murray.
Talented and versatile, accompanied by lively piano playing throughout by musical director Michael Riley, the actors keep the action sharp and focused. With many a reference to their Scottish hosts, this NewsRevue keeps it current and daft – and above all, laugh-out-loud funny.
