Vault Festival 2015 now open

The third Vault Festival opened this week to much fanfare. Based in the network of tunnels underneath Waterloo station, Vault boasts a promising line-up of theatre, live-music, stand-up and pretty much everything in between.

We popped into Artful Badger’s Wild Worlds – Dark Sides, a bizarre mash-up of physical theatre and predictable imagery (yes, a bird-girl did assault a cucumber then fuck the floor with it). The only male in the show - some goat-devil - screamed at us incomprehensibly for 20 minutes before inviting us to a Drowned Man-esque rave. Some people laughed, others left.

The Vault Festival feels uncannily like the Underbelly Cowgate, Edinburgh. Comedian Camilla Whitehill reiterated this claiming: “Vault is the closest thing London has to the Edinburgh Festival.” I am inclined to agree. As a huge Edinburgh fan, (umm, who isn’t?) Vault offers a welcome bout of déjà vu and, as a result, I loved the vibe.

Credit has to go to the organisers who have worked tirelessly to bring this small but perfectly formed arts festival to London.
