The Twins Macabre: Small Mediums at Large

Meet Ivy and Maurice Macabre, two devilish siblings with mischief on their minds and destruction in their hearts. The audience are welcomed into their shabby playroom with the promise that we will not escape and that, before the hour is up, we will be terminally maimed. The Twins take us through a series of sketches that have an undercurrent of the Addams Family, Hot Fuzz and the League of Gentlemen all rolled into one. Their twisted characterisations are wonderfully specific, absorbing us in the darkest depths of comedy.

The quirky duo bounce off one another with a well-honed vigour, leading us through nursery rhymes without happy endings and a failed psychic proficiency test. The only thing that could have been slightly tighter in this piece was the structure. As an audience member I appreciated and adored the various sketches and personas; however, in an ideal world I would have wanted a stronger through-line and frame work to hold it all together.

PS in short: The Twins Macabre is one not to be missed, a wicked pair in both senses of the word and an hour of mischief which will leave you wanting more.
